Welcome!

Welcome to Q.W.I.C.K! Our job here is to keep you entertained and active during quarantine. We understand these are tough times so sit back, relax, and let us give you some quarantine fun! We cover topics like: entertainment, keeping active, family, cooking and more. We love hearing from you guys, so keep us ~posted~ with your comments. Make sure to subscribe to our blog through e-mail, and we will e-mail you back. Enjoy:)

Fact of the week

This week's fact is: A man once knotted 39 cherry stems with his tongue in 3 minutes. Here at q.w.i.c.k, we challenge you to try to beat this record. It would be a great way to spend your Tuesday after noon instead of binge watching season six of that show you've been meaning to finish.

Cooking

Grandma's Crazy Cake 3 cups flour 2 teaspoons baking soda 2 teaspoons salt 2 cups sugar 1/3 cup cocoa 1 teaspoon vanilla 3/4 cup olive oil 2 tablespoons white vinegar 1 egg 2 cups water First sift flour, baking soda, salt, sugar, and cocoa into a medium bowl. Then add vanilla, olive oil, white vinegar, egg, and water to the mixture. Next mix it all together and bake in a 9x13 in. pan at 350 for 25-30 minutes or until tests well. Enjoy!

Games to play

We can all partake in some family fun every once and a while. Whether it's playing make-believe or playing battleship, we can all use a little fun in our lives. You may be like some and have a whole gaming closet, or you might just play hide-and-seek. You do you. Play whatever you want whenever you want, just don't get too caught up in it, you still have work to do!

Education

We all need to stay educated whether were in preschool or we have graduated from college.  Even though school is out, we still need to keep our brains healthy. If you have a phone, tablet, or even computer there are so many apps you can use. If you don't have any electronics grab a book! Books can still help us keep our brains healthy. We can all also grab a buddy and play some games. They may not be educational, but they are still fun and help keep our bodies fresh.

Pets

Whether its a Pitbull or domestic cat, pets are a great addition to the family! They can cuddle when your sad and play when you feel like getting some exercise after your 3rd piece of Grandma's crazy cake (check out our cooking page for the recipe), they are always there for you. If you dont have a pet get one! Or, if you can't have a pet, snuggle with a stuffed animal. It really helps to have something to hold during this tough quarantine.

Movies/TV

We all love watching TV, so why not watch a show that is new to you? Here are a few shows we recommend:  Zoe's Extraordinary Playlist  on NBC,  The Simpsons  on Disney+, and the movie  Onward  on Disney+. These are all fairly family friendly and are great watches for everybody. Now there is tons of other stuff, we just thought we would put up some recommendations.

Siblings

In this tough time siblings can be a pain. If something goes wrong the eldest (us here at q.w.i.c.k.) is always to blame. The parents always say "why weren't you watching them" or " You shouldn't have let them do that". They also blame the eldest a lot in fights. the eldest child often hears this: " well (insert name here) started it" or "well (insert name here) did  this  to me".  But in times like this it can be really nice to have a sibling. They can love you when your feeling down, and they make great playmates. They can also be good to have around when your bored. Often they have better play ideas than the eldest child does. They are great to play games with and overall great to have around during quarantine (except for when you're fighting).

Keeping active

One thing that can make your quarantine awesome is getting plenty of exercise into your day. You could go on a bike ride or a run. You could also play a family game outside. Anything that keeps that body active is good to do during quarantine. Being outside is also great for quarantine because it's nice to breathe fresh air every day. We recommend that you spend at least 1 hour being active every day, and an hour and a half on the weekend. We understand that you have work to do, but maybe go on a bike ride every night. You do you! Just don't sit around all day, okay?

Screen time

Now, being in quarantine doesn't just mean binge watching TV all day. We recommend not to go over six hours of screen time every day. This being said, watching some YouTube isn't a bad thing. You just have to balance how much screen time you have each day. Now, we are not saying to quit your job because your working online. Just dial down the entertainment. You can also work entertainment into your active life. You could: have a dance party, listen to music on a run/bike ride, watch TV while running on your treadmill, etc. We can all use a little screen time every once in a while, but not all the time.

Eating healthy

It is always a good idea to eat healthy. Eating healthy doesn't mean eating just greens and salads, it means to have a healthy balance in your diet. It also means to follow any dietary restrictions that you may have. This being said, it is a very good idea to eat fruits and vegetables. While in quarantine (and after Easter), we are tempted to eat all of this candy and junk food. You can have a little bit, but make sure to restrict yourself so you stay healthy.

Staying home

We are all trying to "flatten the curve" and it makes it hard when you don't stay home. Going out to the store is okay, but only do it when you really need something. Doctors and nurses are risking their lives in hospitals working for all of us. Staying home is something that is easy and very healthy. If you can stay in your home or apartment, then do so. There are lots of things you can do at home, which is exactly what this blog is about. Stay home for all of us. Please.

Books to read

There are lots of books you can read while in quarantine. It can be really nice to just pick up a book and get hooked. It is a lot healthier to read than watch TV. A few reading apps you can get are: Libby or Raz kids (for kids). We recommend reading: The Astonishing Color of After by Emily X.R. Pan and Percy Jackson by Rick Riordan. Its also good to read what you're interested in whether its fantasy or Si-Fi.

Find a hobby

Hobbies are easy to have, and if you don't have one, get one! It is nice to have something to do every once and a while. You could take up writing, knitting, or even make your own blog. It's up to you. Quarantine is a great way to experiment and figure out what you're good at. You never know, you could be a secret artist. Lets find out!
